Answer

We can all agree that there is no room in our society for sectarianism, or intolerance, in any shape or form.

Our ongoing commitment to eradicating sectarianism is reflected through the Together Building a United Community Strategy.

The T:BUC strategy includes a working definition of sectarianism where it is defined as: ‘threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour or attitudes towards a person by reason of that person’s religious belief or political opinion; or to an individual as a member of such a group.’

Going forward, the issue of sectarianism and how we can continue to tackle it in the context of today’s society is under consideration as part of the T:BUC Review, and it is expected that recommendations will shortly be submitted for Ministerial consideration.
