Answer

At present, there is no general availability of Generative AI (GenAI) licences for teachers through the C2k system. The Education Authority has completed two proof-of-concept pilots involving Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini Advanced. From June 2026, EdIS C2K will begin a phased rollout of secure enterprise grade Gen AI Licenses commencing with school principals.

The £10.7 million investment will provide schools with secure AI tools through C2k, alongside professional learning to ensure they are used safely and effectively. The aim is to give all schools fair access to these tools while supporting teaching through lesson preparation, assessment, personalised learning, inclusive practice and reducing administrative workload.

The cost of individual AI licences cannot be shared for commercial reasons, but they have been agreed at a significantly discounted rate, ensuring good value for the education sector.
