Answer
As outlined in my responses to AQW 44727 and 44730, no formal assessment of need has yet been undertaken in respect of a dedicated mental health and wellbeing service for children of primary school age.
Following the completion of the review of the Emotional Health and Wellbeing Framework, my officials will engage with Department of Health counterparts to consider the report’s findings and recommendations. Subsequent proposals will then be brought forward for my consideration.
Early indications from the review suggest that next steps are likely to include exploring the type of provision required for children in primary education. I remain open to engagement with the Minister of Health as officials take this work forward.
