Answer
A school’s arrangements for the administration of medication are reviewed as part of the Education and Training Inspectorate’s improvement-focused inspection framework, supporting schools in strengthening their practice.
The Education Authority (EA) advised it supports the consistent implementation of the Department of Education’s guidance on supporting pupils with medical needs by providing schools with clear advice, signposting regarding training and resources through the EA Medical Needs Service.
The EA Medical Needs Service works directly with schools to help them to help them develop appropriate policies, ensure staff are trained in managing pupils’ medical needs and address any issues identified through ongoing engagement.
