Answer

My Department has no plans for upgrades to the river drainage infrastructure in Comber. Comber is not identified in either the current or previous Flood Risk Management Plan (FRMP) as an APSFR (Area of Potential Significant Flood Risk) nor has it been identified by our local teams as an area with a history of significant flooding therefore it is not on our current programme. However, during the summer months of 2025, significant maintenance was undertaken on the section of the Comber (Enler) River extending from Enler Gardens to the Killinchy Road Bridge. We will continue to inspect and maintain designated watercourses and their associated infrastructure within the Comber catchment, in line with our maintenance standards. If an inspection determines that there is a blockage significantly impeding the free flow of water within a watercourse or that drainage infrastructure is in an unsatisfactory condition, then works will be programmed.
