Answer
Those receiving a Notice to Quit from private rented sector accommodation may avail of homelessness assistance under the Housing (NI) Order 1988. This includes households considered to be threatened with homelessness within 28 days.
As set out in the Order, a household may be owed the full housing duty and can avail of support including temporary accommodation and storage of belongings where appropriate.
All households approaching the Housing Executive for support, regardless of whether they are owed the full housing duty, are entitled to advice and assistance, including information relating to housing options and signposting to other relevant support.
My Department also funds Housing Rights which provides a wide range of services including helplines. It also provides a meditation service to help landlords and tenants resolve issues and sustain tenancies.
