Answer
Question 11 – AQO 1387/22-27
The commitment to improve post-19 provision for young people with Special Educational Needs is shared across the Executive.
My officials are currently taking forward a process of review and engagement, examining evidence on both provision and legislation.
This includes meeting with schools, parents, young people, colleges, other providers and representative organisations. In addition, they are engaging with counterparts in other departments and jurisdictions and have commissioned some comparative research from Stranmillis University College.
All of this work is continuing at pace, however, it is important that this is done with due diligence and care.
As I indicated in a reply to your written question last month, I expect to receive advice for my consideration in the Spring.
