Answer
I recognise that stroke is preventable and I am committed to making improvements towards stroke prevention. To that end, My Department’s Reshaping Stroke Care Action Plan, published on 20th June outlines steps taken to date to improve stroke prevention including the endorsement of a range of guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.
Alongside this, the Action Plan sets out specific priority actions to establish seven day access to Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) assessment within 24 hours of stroke symptoms.
As the Action Plan is implemented, my Department will continue to work across the health and social care sector, and with other government departments and agencies, to ensure we create the environment that better supports and empowers people to manage and improve their health and wellbeing and will look for further opportunities to improve stroke prevention.
